Extending the sunspot area series from Kodaikanal Solar Observatory

چکیده
Kodaikanal Solar Observatory (KoSO) possesses one of world's longest and homogeneous records sunspot observations that span more than a century (1904-2017). Interestingly, these (originally recorded in photographic plates/films) were taken with the same setup over this entire time period which makes data unique best suitable for long-term solar variability studies. A large part data, between 1921-2011, digitized earlier catalog containing detected parameters (e.g., area location) was published Mandal et al.(2017). In article, we extend by including new sets 1904-1921 2011-2017. To end, digitize calibrate datasets include resolving issue random image orientation. We fix comparing KoSO images co-temporal from Royal Greenwich Observatory. Following that, semi-automated detection automated umbra algorithm are implemented onto calibrated to detect sunspots umbra. Additionally, during updation, also filled gaps existing (1921-2011) virtue re-calibrating 'rouge' plates. This updated series covering nearly 115 years (1904-2017) being made available community will be source study long term Sun

Reconstruction of global solar radiation time series from 1933 to 2013 at the Izaña Atmospheric Observatory
This paper presents the reconstruction of the 80year time series of daily global solar radiation (GSR) at the subtropical high-mountain Izaña Atmospheric Observatory (IZO) located in Tenerife (The Canary Islands, Spain). For this purpose, we combine GSR estimates from sunshine duration (SD) data using the Ångström–Prescott method over the 1933/1991 period, and GSR observations directly performe...
متن کاملSolar flares in the recent sunspot maximum
At the time of writing (October, 2005) we have almost completed the fourth solar maximum of the space age, during which we have had nearly continuous study of solar activity from above the Earth’s atmosphere. During the most recent part of this era the progress of technology has enabled new observations with unprecedented scope. As a result we have learned many new and important things about so...
متن کاملA Curious History of Sunspot Penumbrae
Daily records of sunspot group areas compiled by the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, from May of 1874 through 1976 indicate a curious history for the penumbral areas of the smaller sunspot groups. On average, the ratio of penumbral area to umbral area in a sunspot group increases from 5 to 6 as the total sunspot group area increases from 100 to 2000 μHem (a μHem is 10−6 the area of a solar hemisp...
متن کاملSolar Neutrino Results from the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory
We describe here the measurement of the flux of neutrinos created by the decay of solar B by the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory (SNO). The neutrinos were detected via the charged current (CC) reaction on deuterium and by the elastic scattering (ES) of electrons. The CC reaction is sensitive exclusively to νe’s, while the ES reaction also has a small sensitivity to νμ’s and ντ ’s. The flux of νe’s...
متن کاملThe Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory Solar Constant Program
The Astrophysical Observatory of the Smithsonian Institution (APO) made measurements of the solar constant at many locations on the earth's surface from 1902 to 1962. These measurements have been interpreted by various authors to show that the sun has both a long-term secular change in brightness and cyclic variations. The same data set has been used by other authors to show that the sun is con...
